pipes and drums bandThe Georgetown Fire Department Pipes and Drums band includes six Georgetown firefighters who play bagpipes, snare drums, and a bass drum. The band started in 2006 and has been very active recently with performances at the Sertoma Fourth of July, the Red Poppy Festival, and other regional performances and competitions. Firefighters, police officers, and paramedics from the Emergency Services Pipes and Drums Association often join Georgetown firefighters for performances.

Pipes and drums bands have a long tradition in the fire service, playing traditional music from Scotland and Ireland. The Georgetown Fire Department Pipes and Drums band, like other fire department bands across the country, is a volunteer nonprofit organization started by firefighters who were interested in joining this long-standing tradition.

Friday’s performance starts at 6 p.m. at the corner of Eighth and Main streets. Bring a friend, your lawn chairs and even a picnic dinner.
